Lagaan - a true story that is lost in the pages of history. It is a story of a small village Champaner, where a brave man Bhuvan (Aamir Khan) Lived. A story of 1893, where in, East India Company ruled India and they levied tax for the protection of the King's province called as Lagaan. The tax was paid by the poor villagers in the form of their agricultural production.

British Officer Goliath (Paul Blackthorne) announced double Lagaan to the villagers at the time when no monsoon had arrived and it was harder for the villagers to give even a single pie of Lagaan. In mean time there was rivarly between Bhuvan and Goliath who challenged to beat the later in a cricket match and the reward being abolition of Lagaan for 3 years for the entire province and penalty being three times Lagaan. Bhuvan accepts the challenge for playing the game, but knows nothing about it and understands it to be similar to Gulli Danda.

The first half of the saga concentrates on Bhuvan's indefatigable attempt to set up a team, never mind if they happend to be spaced goat or physically unfit.

Meanwhile, a gaon ki Gowri (Gracy Singh) cooks up a thousand bajra rotis while Golliath's rebellious sister (Rachley Shelley) offers secret lessons in googlies to the under dogs. And yes by Jove, the lady fair's heart doth go boom boom for Bhuvan the brave heart.

Post-intermission the cricket match commences. Despite the inordinate footage expended on it, this section does hold your interest and even entiees you to gasp. claps and cheer fot the home team. And of course, the close shave finale pushes you into playing that the end's strictly upbeat.

Besides twist and turn in the cricket field, the movies other undeniable assets are - A Rahman's thoroughly inspired melodic songs and background score, Javed Akhtar's rooted in soil lyrics, Nikul Kamte's meticuluos sound design, and Amitabh Bacchhan's expressive voice over.
